Please find below important dates and events happening for members of the LCTA.

LCTA Members

Fall General Meeting: Oct. 2026

Winter General Meeting: Feb. 2027

Annual General Meeting: April 2027

General Meetings are held at the Curling Rink Lounge at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena at 3:45 pm.

Women's Institute: Jan. 21- 23 2027 in Vancouver - one female identifying member of the LCTA will be picked by the executive to attend. Please let Sean know if you are interested in attending. BCTF will cover your expenses.

New Teacher Conference: Feb. 27, 2027 - for teacher's in their first five years of teaching. You may use your Pro-D funds towards this event.

LCTA Executive

Regular meetings: 2nd Tuesday of the month. LCTA members may attend, listen, and give voice but not vote. Meetings are usually held at LCS.

Zone Meetings: select executive members attend twice a year. Meeting with others in the same executive positions in their local. Usually this involves Presidents, Health & Safety Reps, Pro-D Chairs, Social Justice Chair, Aboriginal Education Chair, and Bargaining Chair.

Fall Zone: October 2-3, 2026

Spring Zone: April 16 -17, 2027

Rep. Assembly in Victoria - Nov. 13 & 14, 2026 - Local Rep and President will attend.

Federation Leadership Institute in Vancouver - Nov. 20 & 21, 2026 President and Vice-President will attend.

Professional Development

Through our collective agreement, teachers have access to three teacher controlled Professional Development (Pro-D) days. As well the Cowichan School District provides us with five Professional Learning Community (PLC) opportunities and two District led learning days (Non-instructional Days - NID). For the 2026-2027 school year these dates are:

Oct. 21 - PLC (2 hour early dismissal)

Oct. 23 - Pro-D - PSA Day

Nov. 25 - PLC (2 hour early dismissal)

Nov. 27 - NID - District Led

Feb. 12 - Pro-D - School Based

Feb. 24 - PLC (2 hour early dismissal)

April 12 - NID - District Led

April 21 - PLC (2 hour early dismissal)

May 7 - Pro-D - LCTA organized

May 19 - PLC (2 hour early dismissal)
