The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, is often still known as Orange Shirt Day. It is a day to recognize the atrocities and multi-generational effects of the Indian residential school system. It occurs every year on September 30.

A policy and advocacy organization that represents and works on behalf of First Nations in British Columbia. FNESC has a mandate to support First Nations students and advance First Nations education in BC.
Local First Nations
Get to know some First Nations that have lived in this area since time immemorial.
The Ts' baa-asatx First Nation has live on the shores of Cowichan Lake since time immemorial. They are working on being a self-determining, innovative, progressive, and prosperous nation.
The land, the waters, the resources, the environment have always been the source of life, culture and spirituality of the Ditidaht People.
Cowichan Tribes consists of seven traditional villages. The main language spoken is Hul'qumi'num. With over 5,500 members, they are the largest single First Nation in BC.
